A farmer/rancher in Oregon has paid $5 million out of pocket to cover 700 square miles of land with wireless internet access using a mesh network. Apparently he’s recovering the cost by leasing out access to the system to small towns, other farmers, emergency management, and police departments. This is pretty sweet.
